Carricks Brook celebrate using the new spa pool at sister home Oakdown House

After successfully raising more than £35,000, Oakdown House is thrilled to be able to offer residents the opportunity to use their newly opened swim spa pool at the home.

The home which is located in Burwash Common, supports up to 45 residents with learning and physical disabilities. The spa pool benefits all residents whatever their disability. Their sister home, Carricks Brook in Dallington, which supports adults with Autism, have also been able to bring their residents over to Oakdown House to enjoy the spa pool too.

Oakdown House is set in beautiful countryside with a large garden, the spa pool is easily accessible with step free ramped access, surrounded by beautiful trees and shrubs. The spa pool has been kitted out with an overhead hoist so that residents with physical disabilities can comfortably be lowered into the warm water. Each resident has their own, individual risk assessment to ensure all residents have a safe and enjoyable experience. The spa has colourful lights, bubbles and water jets, creating an enhanced sensory experience. Sensory activities are amazingly beneficial for people with disabilities, relieving aches and pains, reducing stress, improving fitness and mobility, developing motor skills and for most people providing an amazing relaxing experience. We have heard that some residents don’t want to get out!

Of course, it’s not just the residents that benefit, staff love getting into the water with the residents, there’s not many jobs where you get to have a dip in a hot tub and get paid for it!

The spa pool is temporarily housed under a large marquee, which provides a bit of shelter from the elements. The final stage will be to construct a permanent wooden framed building over the spa to enhance the experience for residents even more.

Supported in the water, everyone can enjoy the benefits of the spa pool.

Appeal to help raise funds for the completion of the spa pool housing structure.
